About Subjects How It Works Reviews Get in Touch Book a Lesson

PRIVACY & COOKIES

Keeping things straightforward.

If you contact me about tuition, book a lesson or become a student, I need to use some personal information to respond to you and provide the tutoring service. This page explains what I collect, why I use it and the choices you have.

Who is responsible for your information?

DC Tutoring is operated by Daniel Buckman as a sole trader. I am responsible for the personal information used in running DC Tutoring.

You can contact me about privacy or your personal information at dan@private-tutor.com.

What information do I use?

Depending on how you use DC Tutoring, this may include:

  • a parent or guardian's name, email address and contact details;
  • a student's name, year group and subjects studied;
  • information you choose to provide about the student's learning, progress or tuition needs;
  • lesson and booking information;
  • correspondence between us;
  • payment and administrative records; and
  • limited technical information generated when you use this website.

Please don't send sensitive personal information through the website contact form unless it is genuinely necessary. If something sensitive is relevant to tuition, we can discuss the most appropriate way to share it.

Why do I use this information?

I use personal information to respond to enquiries, arrange and provide lessons, tailor tuition to the individual student, communicate with parents, guardians and students where appropriate, manage bookings and payments, keep appropriate business records, and maintain the security and reliability of my services.

I also use optional website analytics to understand how this website is used, but only where you have chosen to allow them.

My lawful bases

Different purposes have different lawful bases under UK data protection law.

Where you contact me about tuition or enter into an agreement for tuition, I may use information because it is necessary to take steps you have requested before entering into a contract or to provide the agreed service.

I also rely on legitimate interests where necessary to run and administer a one-to-one tutoring service — for example, keeping appropriate lesson information, communicating about a student's tuition and maintaining the security of my services. Where legitimate interests apply, I consider the privacy rights and interests of the people involved, particularly where information relates to a child.

I may retain or use information where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, such as financial and tax record-keeping requirements.

Optional website analytics are used only with your consent. You can change that choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, the information you enter is sent through Formspree, which provides the form-processing service used by this website. I receive the enquiry so that I can respond to you.

Booking a lesson

The booking page uses Koalendar. The Koalendar booking service does not load automatically when you visit the page. It only loads if you choose “Load booking calendar”.

When you load the booking calendar, your browser connects to Koalendar and services it uses, which may store cookies or similar information. If you make a booking, the information you enter into the booking system is processed through Koalendar so that the appointment can be arranged and managed.

Email and other service providers

I use third-party services where necessary to run DC Tutoring. These may include email, scheduling, website hosting and other services involved in delivering or administering tuition.

These providers only receive information relevant to the service they provide. Some providers or their subprocessors may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, I expect appropriate legal safeguards for international transfers to be used where required.

Website analytics and cookies

I use Google Analytics to understand things such as which pages are visited and how people find and use the website.

Google Analytics is optional and does not load unless you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie panel. If you decline, the tutoring website continues to work normally.

Your choice is remembered in your browser so that I don't ask you every time you visit. You can reopen the panel at any time using Cookie settings in the footer.

If you withdraw consent, the website disables further Google Analytics collection and removes the Google Analytics cookies that it can remove from this site.

The site also stores your analytics preference locally in your browser. This is necessary to remember the choice you have made.

Google Fonts

This website currently uses fonts provided by Google. Your browser may therefore connect to Google's servers to download the fonts needed to display the site.

Server logs

Like most websites, the server may create limited technical logs when pages are requested. These can include information such as IP addresses, request times, pages requested and technical browser information. I use these where necessary for website security, troubleshooting and reliability rather than to build advertising profiles.

How long do I keep information?

I don't keep personal information indefinitely just because I can.

Enquiries that do not lead to tuition are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to deal with the enquiry and any follow-up. Information relating to current students is kept while it is useful and necessary for providing and administering tuition.

Some business and financial records may need to be kept for longer where required for tax, accounting or legal purposes. When information is no longer reasonably required, I delete it or allow it to be removed in accordance with the retention arrangements of the services I use.

Children's information

Much of my work involves children and young people, so information about students is treated with particular care. I only use student information where it is relevant to providing or administering tuition or for another appropriate and lawful reason.

I do not sell student information or use it for advertising profiles.

Who do I share information with?

I don't sell personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers that I use to operate DC Tutoring, such as Formspree for website enquiries and Koalendar for bookings, as well as relevant email, hosting and technology providers.

I may also disclose information where required by law, or where sharing is necessary and lawful to protect someone's safety or rights.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal information. These can include the right to ask for access to your information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion or restriction in certain circumstances, and portability of some information.

Where processing is based on legitimate interests, you can object to that processing. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

If you'd like to exercise a data protection right or ask a question about how I use personal information, email dan@private-tutor.com.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how I use personal information, please contact me first so that I have the opportunity to put things right.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.

Changes to this notice

I may update this notice if the services I use or the way I handle information changes. The latest version will always be available on this page.
